Community Service
Brooklyn Boulders is dedicated to providing more than just an athletic experience for local individuals. We have also stated our commitment to providing services to the local community. If you would like to contact us regarding suggestions for donations or community service please email our BKB Foundation Coordinator, Jean, at Jean@BrooklynBoulders.com. Read on to find out about some examples of our volunteer work and donations.
Root For Trees
BKB recently assisted Root For Trees with preparing and installing sidewalk guards and identification signs on 28 trees in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Root For Trees is a New York organization devoted to raising awareness of the city’s plant life and advocating its protection. BKB gathered volunteers for both the initial preparation of the tree plots and the installation of the tree guards, which were partially assembled in the gym beforehand.
Paintfest
Brooklyn Boulders also welcomed the opportunity to help in the beautification of Thomas Greene Park, which is right across the street from the gym, by recruiting volunteers to help repaint its benches. We partnered with the local nonprofit group Friends of Douglass/Greene Park and contributed manpower to their painting efforts on multiple occasions.
Save the Degraw Pool
BKB was also proud to help the neighborhood effort to save the Degraw St. pool after the city threatened its closure at the beginning of summer 2010. We helped in a letter campaign coordinated among local businesses and helped advocate to our patrons the need to contribute to the effort to help our neighborhood keep enjoying one of its great summer destinations. The gym also attracted patrons to participate in a “Save the Pool” demonstration across the street at Thomas Greene Park.
Nonprofit Discounts
BKB has also pledged numerous discounts to nonprofit organizations looking to send kids on a fun climbing trip to our gym.
We pledge to continue our effort to provide not only a contribution to NYC’s climbing community but to the Brooklyn and NYC community as a whole. We hope to become even more integrated with our fantastic neighborhood in the years to come.
