Brendan
General Manager

Originally from Atlanta, Brendan has been climbing for fifteen years. He started climbing at summer camp when he was ten years old. Brendan enjoys deep water soloing because he finds it liberating, and his hardest send was Dreamscape, 5.11c in Sand Rock, Alabama. Climbing is not the only sport Brendan enjoys–he also likes mountain biking, caving, whitewater kayaking, and killing zombies. If Brendan could have one superpower, it would be to never sleep, so he could fit more awesomeness into his day!

Carlos

Manager, Climbing Instructor

Carlos aka “Los”, started climbing around the same time BKB first opened its doors and been addicted to climbing since. Like a good Latino (from Colombia to be exact) he is also a good Salsa, bachata, merengue dancer. When his not climbing you might see him snowboarding, trail running, hiking, doing yoga, camping, playing soccer/volleyball and/or doing pretty much any outdoor activity. To him the most beautiful person in the world is his 4 year old daughter. “Too bad she hates climbing,” he says.

Juliana

Manager

Juliana is a bike messenger who spent her summer living in a tent in Squamish. She’s now living in a tent in the Gunks, her home crag. Though BKB has shown her the bouldering light, she’s originally a trad climber. Juliana grew up in London and moved to New York three years ago.

She went to art school where she studied lithography, armature, and how to break up bar fights at the rowdy Irish pub she managed. These days, she prefers to knit like a demon, and manages to read 200 pages a week, when she’s not teaching people “how not to die” on the ropes.

Adi

Slackline Instructor

Adi is part of Team YogaSlackers and is constantly exploring new ways to take the yoga practice off the mat and into new forms of balance, strength and co-ordination while also raising awareness about eco-conscious matters and sustainability. Drawing from a combined background in climbing, gymnastics, dance and acrobatics her classes are always entertaining and inspiring to students of all levels who are interested in learning ways to take their practice to the next level. Adi enjoys climbing anything outdoors and has an old boyfriend to thank for getting her into the sport (and making her take a lot of falls).

Gia

Kid’s League Instructor

Gia Harris made a deal with her boyfriend—she would start climbing if he would read a book. Two years later, she’s still climbing and he hasn’t cracked a single one. Gia is studying Creative Writing at Sarah Lawrence College and is getting good practice by writing bios for the Brooklyn Boulders website. Gia often cites her height (5’1 on a good day) as the reason she can’t climb a boulder problem, even though she knows it’s a cop-out. Gia teaches Kid’s League and Brooklyn Boulders Adventures Summer Camp, and is a staff writer.
