The BKBeasts: Brooklyn Boulders’ Youth Climbing Team
The BKBeasts is a program created specifically for young climbers between the ages of eight and eighteen who want to progress while training in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. The team is split into four tiers with 1:5 coach to climber ratios; providing personal attention and a tailored experience for each individual. From beginners looking to improve their skills, to National Champions training for their next competition, the BKBeasts provide something for everyone!

*In order to register for the team, your climber must attend seasonal try-outs. For more info, please e-mail Nicole our Team Manager at kids@brooklynboulders.com

Practice and Competition:
The BKBeasts train in two consecutive twelve week seasons: ABS (American Bouldering Series) and SCS (Sport Climbing Series)

ABS

  • Bouldering
  • September through December (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • ABS National Championships for qualifying competitors in March

SCS

  • Tope rope and sport climbing
  • February through May (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • SCS National Championships for qualifying competitors in July

Our Tiers:

Beasts 101 – $600/Beast
This is our entry level team. The 101 program is all about having fun while making friends and learning new skills. We use lots of climbing and games, as well as the slow introduction of some training elements to keep these Beasts excited and interested while they grow as climbers. This program provides everything needed to get on the path to National Championships or a lifetime of recreational climbing.

  • Practice Mondays from 4pm-6pm
  • Full gym membership for the season

Beasts Tier 1 - $1,200/Beast
Our Tier 1′s focus is training and competition. A step above our 101 foundation, this tier is where young climbers get the boost in focus and fitness they need to succeed in our very demanding T2 program.

  • Practice Wednesdays from 4pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 9am-11:30am
  • Full gym membership for the season
  • Sponsorship from Klean Kanteen, La Sportiva and Adidas
  • Post-season coaching for Regionals. Divisionals and Nationals *if competitors qualify*

Beasts Tier 2 - $1,200/Beast
Tier 2 is a step above Tier 1 with a more rigorous training program that focuses not only on developing physical strength, mental strength and technical proficiency, but also on competition formats and the more subtle nuances of climbing movement. The climbers in this program are given the tools they need to push their personal limits and hold their own with the best in the country.

  • Practice Tuesdays from 4pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 9am-11:30am
  • Full gym membership for the season
  • Sponsorship from Klean Kanteen, La Sportiva and Adidas
  • Post-season coaching for Regionals. Divisionals and Nationals *if competitors qualify*

Beasts Tier 3 - $1,400/Beast
Tier 3 is the newest tier of the BKBeasts! This section of the team is geared towards experienced competition climbers whose goal is to climb at a National level. Be aware that entry to this tier is not based solely on climbing ability, but dedication to training and to the sport, perseverance, maturity and character as well. Climbers who make this tier get personalized training curriculums, 3 days of practice a week and the support they’ll need to achieve their goals.

  • Practice Tuesdays/Thursdays from 4pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 9am-11:30am
  • Full gym membership for the season
  • Sponsorship from Klean Kanteen, La Sportiva and Adidas
  • Personalized Training Curriculums
  • Post-season coaching for Regionals. Divisionals and Nationals *if competitors qualify*

Coaching Staff:
The BKBeasts have lots of talent, love, experience and expertise at their disposal. Our coaching team includes BKB route-setters, BKB’s youth program director, dedicated employees and nationally recognized professional climbers; the diversity of specialized skills our coaches bring to the program is truly astounding. It goes without saying that our coaches love working with kids, but they also constantly strive to become better instructors and mentors; they hold themselves to an equal or higher standard of personal improvement than the kids on the team. Our entire coaching staff is involved in ongoing professional development courses ranging from peer group feedback to nationally recognized certifications.

The Brooklyn Boulders hold our climbers and coaches to the highest standards in sportsmanship and conduct and employ a coaching staff worthy of being emulated.

It Doesn’t End with Climbing:
A source of great team pride for the Beasts is our focus on building not only amazing climbers, but amazing people as well. This is why we incorporate lessons on outdoor ethics, etiquette and stewardship into our programs. We are also one of the only climbing teams in the country that provides opportunities for community service events and an in house tutoring staff – we want our climbers to achieve academic success that compliments their success on the wall!
